RAFT leverages past investment from multiple sources, and builds directly on 5 years of partnership, successes and learning, funded by the United States Agency for International Development from 2006 – 2011. During this time, we have learned a lot and are continually applying and building on these lessons going forward. One such lesson is the importance of sustained investment in and commitment to eradicating the drivers of illegal and destructive forest management.
Together with the ongoing support of the United States Government, the Australia Government’s support has kicked off the current phase of RAFT. To maintain the momentum and commitment to sustaining the RAFT partnership, we are working to harness the resources of an even larger group of partners to develop a long-term program of work that delivers a significant, lasting impact at regional and national levels.
RAFT’s management approach also views partner organizations themselves as vehicles for sustainability, rather than a one-off project team. This influences program priorities and how activities and funding are distributed across partners, with the result that partners are well placed to take forward project successes in their individual programs of work and attract additional resources.
