As the tropical forests of Asia Pacific are developed to meet global demand for wood and paper products, they are being degraded and cleared at an unsustainable pace. As a result, hundreds of millions of forest-dependent peoples are losing access to their livelihoods, critical wildlife habitat is shrinking, carbon pollution is contributing to global climate change and many of the region’s forestry sectors are facing an uncertain future. At the same time, global demand for sustainable products and government commitments to green development are steadily increasing. This new environment has created an exciting opportunity for RAFT partners to work with governments, businesses and communities across the region to accelerate their transition to responsible land management practices that attract long-term rewards. RAFT brings together the skills and knowledge of a group of leading conservation organizations under one platform, making it the go-to place for everything you need to know about responsible – that’s legal and sustainable – forestry and trade. This unique partnership approach allows us to reach further and wider than any one organization can on its own, crossing borders and supply chains to bring about lasting, positive change for the forests, people and economies of Asia Pacific. See and hear more from RAFT partners about what we are doing and how this is benefiting the people and economies we are working with today!
